With World Water Day approaching on the 22nd March, why not spark your students interest with these wonderful worksheets, activity packs, field work advice and free training opportunities!                                                                                        

Ages 4 - 6

  • Use this fantastic All About Rivers fact file produced by the Canal & River Trust to find out how rivers are different to canals, how rivers are formed and how they are used today.
  • This superb School Pond Health & Safety resource produced by the Royal Horticultural Society will help you plan how to install a pond in your school grounds or make improvements to your existing pond.
  • This Resource Pack produced by LEAF Education all about water is one of five topics available in the Global Farming series for primary school aged children produced by LEAF Education. The activities explore the water cycle and climate change; as well as floods and drought.
  • Learn all about biodiversity, adaptations, life cycles, food chains and the wide variety of habitats found in or next to canals and rivers with this creative Canal & River Habitats Topic Pack.

Ages 7 - 10

  • Peruse this Planning Document produced by the Canal & River Trust to inspire you with teaching ideas, learning objectives and resources which cover History, Maths, Geography, Science and Art & Design/Technology.
  • Why not use these terrific teacher notes All About Canals to help design some water themed projects and also find out where your nearest canal is!
  • Think about how your students could re-design an area of the school garden or outside space to create a Corridor for Nature similar to that of canal and river habitats.

Ages 11 - 16 +

  • Use the materials in this fantastic new Flood Management Resource Pack produced by the Association of Drainage Authorities (ADA) in collaboration with LEAF Education to help your KS4 / 5 geography students understand the causes, effects and latest strategies being used to manage flooding in the Fenlands.
  • Also in this series by ADA is the newly launched Flood Management in the Somerset Levels which highlights the very latest strategies being used by a range of organisations in the Somerset Levels.
  • Organise a trip to your local drainage board and meet the trained professionals who work tirelessly to sustainably manage the land and the water ways with this Meet a Drainage Engineer field visit pack.
