Explore this fantastic range of creative crafting and colouring resources that are perfect for children of all ages to immerse themselves in.

Ages 4 - 6

  • Use hay and flowers to make beautiful Hay Hats. You can also make birds, garlands and nest rings. These activities suitable for KS1 and above with extensions for older students are a great way to have fun in the build up to Easter.
  • How to make simple Felt Flowers that you can use to decorate hair bands, hats, brooches, book marks in fact what ever you like!
  • A simple technique with a wow factor. Suitable for KS1 and above, older students will enjoy devolving the designs and creating more complex pieces.
  • Try this Rural Crafts Booklet developed by LEAF Education which covers how to tackle a wide variety of crafts suitable for introduction into the classroom: rag rugging, felt making, simple spinning and weaving, corn dollies and willow decorations.

Ages 7 - 11

  • Try these detailed Wildlife Outlines to colour in, with coloured versions to help those who want to be accurate. Includes birds, mammals, minibeasts and marine life
  • This Outdoor Art resource produced by Natural Connections includes six lesson plans for imaginative, practical art activities in the school grounds.
  • This Tree Faces art activity produced by Learning Through Landscapes can link and draw inspiration from mythology, literature, gargoyles and the green man icon to bring trees alive with a sculpted clay face.


Ages 11 - 16

  • These Wildlife Watch activities produced by the Wildlife Trust have some excellent crafting and colouring ideas designed for all ages and can be carried out in the garden or in the school grounds.
  • Check out this Willow Weaving resource developed by Heritage Crafts Association which is a step-by-step guide for teachers about six rural crafts. The activities are easy to deliver, fun and curriculum linked.
  • Read this guide if you are interested in felt making, it was developed for the highly successful Let Nature Feed Your Senses project, there are clear and detailed instructions about how to carry out Felt Making and a lovely design to copy.
